The real map.

Geography is the game. Five places decide who trades, who drinks and who waits.

The real Middle East map and its five strategic sites
  1. Hormuz

About 39 km wide at its narrowest. In 2024 it carried about a fifth of the world’s oil use.

  2. Bab el-Mandeb

About 26 km wide. Oil shipped through it fell by more than half after late 2023.

  3. Suez

193 km of canal with no locks, joining the Mediterranean and the Red Sea.

  4. Upper Euphrates dams

The Euphrates rises in Turkey’s mountains, where a chain of large dams holds back its water.

  5. Shatt al-Arab / Arvand Rud

Forms where the Tigris and Euphrates meet, and runs about 200 km to the sea; its lower course is the Iran–Iraq border.

Borders follow UN cartographic practice and imply no position on sovereignty. Dashed lines mark areas whose status is disputed.

The same coastal base with new homes, cultivated fields and trade routes in the Claims era; concept art, not gameplay.

II · CLAIMS

Borders meet. Trade and alliances open.

The same coastal base with industrial tanks, expanded roads and a busy waterfront in the Crisis era; concept art, not gameplay.

III · CRISIS

Geography powers unlock. The five sites open to everyone.

The same coastal base fully developed with oil storage, military vehicles and a harbor in the Showdown era; concept art, not gameplay.

IV · SHOWDOWN

Each country’s real top-tier forces. The race for the megaproject.

CONCEPT ART · NOT GAMEPLAY

Eight countries. Every one can win.

Egypt

Runs the Suez Canal. Almost all its fresh water comes from the Nile.

Iran

Holds the northern shore of the Strait of Hormuz.

Iraq

The Tigris and Euphrates meet here. About 145 billion barrels of proven oil (2024).

Israel

Little natural fresh water; desalination supplies much of its drinking water.

Saudi Arabia

A pipeline across the peninsula carries oil to the Red Sea, around Hormuz.

Turkey

The Tigris and Euphrates both rise in its mountains.

UAE

A pipeline to Fujairah ships oil from outside the Strait of Hormuz.

Yemen

Holds the eastern shore of Bab el-Mandeb.

Questions

Is Hormuz: Red Soil pay-to-win?

No. It’s free, and nothing you could ever buy will change a match. If we ever sell anything, it will be cosmetic only.

What kind of game is it?

A real-time strategy game in the spirit of the classic base-builders: gather resources, build a base, advance through four eras, and win by conquest, by holding the strategic sites, by finishing your national megaproject, as a coalition, or on score at the time limit.

Which countries can I play?

Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, the UAE and Yemen. All eight are playable and every one can win.

How long is a match?

30 to 45 minutes.

Do I need to install anything?

No. It runs in a desktop web browser. Phones and tablets aren’t supported at launch.

Can I play solo?

Yes, against bots on easy, normal or hard. Online matches take up to four players, and bots fill the empty seats.

When does it come out?

It’s in development, with no release date yet. Join the invite list and you’ll hear first.

Is it based on real events?

The story starts from the real escalation in the region from 2024 to 2026, then turns to fiction: a 2027 collapse that forces every nation to rebuild. No real leaders appear.

Is there a press kit?

Yes. Facts, wordmark and concept art are on the press page. For anything else, write to hello@redsoil.fun.
